Mercedes-AMG Performance — Built in Affalterbach
Mercedes-AMG started in 1967 as a tiny tuning shop in Affalterbach, Germany, founded by two former Daimler engineers, Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher. By the time AMG joined Mercedes-Benz officially in 1999, “AMG” had already become shorthand for serious German performance — hand-built engines, race-bred chassis tuning, and a sound that turns heads in three states.
Today AMG covers the full Mercedes-Benz lineup, from the compact CLA 45 with the most powerful production 4-cylinder ever built (416+ hp from 2.0 liters), to the AMG GT and GT63 4-Door super-coupes, to the iconic G63 SUV. At Function Factory Performance, we specialize in unlocking what AMG already started — through ECU tuning, exhaust upgrades, downpipes, intakes, and chassis hardware from the brands AMG owners actually trust.

The Brands AMG Owners Actually Run
Mercedes owners shopping for upgrades aren’t looking for “universal fit” eBay parts. They want components engineered specifically for the M177, M178, or M157 V8s and tested on AMG vehicles. We carry the brands that actually do the engineering work:
- iPE Innotech Performance Exhaust — Taiwan-engineered titanium and stainless valvetronic exhausts. Pioneered the bolt-on AMG sound enhancement.
- Akrapovič — Slovenian motorsport exhaust royalty. AMG GT and C63 systems with carbon tips, F1-derived sound tuning.
- WEISTEC Engineering — Southern California AMG specialists. Stage 1, 2, and 3 ECU tunes for M157, M177, M178 platforms with proven dyno results.
- Eventuri — UK carbon fiber intake systems. Patented carbon airbox design, runs cooler and flows better than the OEM unit.
- iND Distribution & RW Carbon — Aero, lighting, and carbon body components for AMG models.
- Eibach & KW — Lowering springs and coilovers for AMG chassis — preserve the AMG ride quality while dropping the stance.

Frequently Asked Questions
What years of Mercedes-AMG do you support?
We carry parts for AMG models from the 2008 C-Class W204 through current production. Our biggest catalogs are for the 2015-2021 C63 AMG (W205), AMG GT and GT63 S 4-Door, G63 AMG, E-Class W212/W213, S63, CLS63, and CLA 45 AMG. For older or rarer AMG variants, contact us — we can typically source what you need through our supplier network.
Will an aftermarket exhaust void my AMG warranty?
In most cases, no — the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act in the US protects you from blanket warranty denial just because you installed an aftermarket part. However, Mercedes can deny warranty coverage for components directly affected by a modification. A cat-back exhaust, for example, will not affect engine warranty. Modifications to the ECU or exhaust components forward of the cats may affect emissions warranty. We can advise on what stays warranty-safe for your specific platform.
How much horsepower can I gain with a tune on a C63 AMG?
On a stock M177 4.0L twin-turbo C63 (W205), a Stage 1 ECU tune from WEISTEC typically adds 60-80 hp and 80-100 lb-ft of torque on pump gas. Stage 2 with downpipes and intake can push the gains to 100+ hp. The C63 platform responds extremely well to tuning — the M177 has significant headroom from the factory.
Do you install Mercedes-AMG parts at your shop?
Yes — our Thousand Oaks, CA shop installs AMG exhausts, downpipes, intakes, ECU tunes, suspension, and carbon aero regularly. We have hands-on experience with the M157, M177, M178, and M139 engines and the W205, W213, W222, X290 chassis platforms. Contact us to schedule.
What is the difference between iPE and Akrapovič for an AMG GT?
iPE Innotech typically offers more configuration options (titanium vs stainless, multiple tip styles, valve control) and is generally priced lower than equivalent Akrapovič systems. Akrapovič brings motorsport pedigree, distinctive sound tuning, and is often the OEM exhaust supplier for AMG limited editions. Both deliver substantial weight savings vs the OEM exhaust. The choice usually comes down to budget and sound preference — we can play recordings of both on the same platform.
Can I run a tune and a cat-back exhaust without downpipes?
Yes. A cat-back-only setup is the simplest, most warranty-safe upgrade path: it gives you 90% of the sound improvement and a noticeable backpressure reduction without touching anything emissions-related. A Stage 1 tune layered on top works great with stock downpipes. When you’re ready for more power, downpipes + tune are the next logical step — that’s where the bigger gains live, particularly on the twin-turbo M177/M178 V8s.
What is the most popular AMG platform you sell parts for?
The 2015-2021 C63 AMG W205 is by far our biggest AMG catalog — 75+ products covering exhaust, downpipes, intakes, tunes, suspension, and aero. The C63 W205 hit the sweet spot of price, performance, and modifiability, and it remains one of the most popular tuning platforms in the AMG world. Right behind it is the AMG GT / GT63 4-Door family.
Do you carry parts for the new M139 (CLA 45, A45)?
Yes — we stock exhaust systems, intakes, and select chassis upgrades for the M139 2.0L turbo platform (CLA 45, A45). The M139 is the most powerful production 4-cylinder ever built (416+ hp factory), and there’s real headroom for ECU tuning. Inventory is more limited than the V8 cars but growing as the aftermarket catches up.
