Ford and Multimatic have created a supercar utterly void of any limitations and regulations set by any race series. The collaboration took the best elements from the Ford GT racecar as well as the production street car to deliver the Ford GT MK II.

The MK II made its debut during the Goodwood Festival of Speed on America’s independence day. Production is limited to 45 track-exclusive vehicles, each start with an MSRP of $1.2 million.

“The true off-the-hook performance capability of the GT hasn’t yet been fully showcased,” said Multimatic’s Chief Technical Officer, Larry Holt. He noted many global homologation requirements limit the road cars capabilities while the racecar has 150 horsepower less than the road car due to the Balance of Performance.

How would the Ford GT perform if all the limitations are removed? According to Holt, the MK II answers that question, spectacularly.

Unrestricted Power That Breaks All Rules

The Ford GT MK II uses the same twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost seen in the racecar and streetcar, but since a sanctioning body does not limit the MK II, it operates at full capacity with 700 horsepower. Additionally, it has been paired with the same seven-speed dual-clutch transmission from the Ford GT but specially calibrated for this track-exclusive application.

To keep the engine cool, the MK II features a high capacity air-to-air outboard mounted charge air cooler with water spray technology that activates in high-temperature situations by applying atomized water on the charge air cooler to maintain a consistent level of power at high temperatures.

Meanwhile, a roof-mounted intake reminiscent of the engine air intake on the racecar has been added for the MK II to feed the auxiliary engine, clutch, transmission coolers.

Function Meets Form

Ford removed 200-pounds of weight from the car by removing the street car’s adjustable ride height and drive modes. The lowered and fixed ride height work with the 5-way adjustable DSSV shock absorbers to improve handling over the streetcar.

The large dual-element rear wing seen on the GT MK II exceeds the downforce generated by the Ford GT race car while a front racing splitter and diffuser help balance the additional downforce in addition to new fender louvers and dive planes.

Stopping power of the MK II exceeds that of the racecar by utilizing the carbon ceramic brakes seen in the streetcar. Forged aluminum 19-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport racing tires cover the massive 15.5-inch front and 14.1-inch rear Brembos.

In total, the aggressive aerodynamic changes enable the GT MK II to generate 400 percent more downforce than the Ford GT and the fixed aerodynamic elements with race-proven suspension allow the car to pull more than 2Gs of lateral grip.

Honoring Icons With Timeless Style

The GT MK II receives its stylized headlamps and iconic running lights, in addition to its front fascia and hood from the Ford GT streetcar, which debut at Goodwood FOS in 2017. Elements from the Ford GT racecar built for the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race, can also be seen inside of the MK II with a bespoke Sparco racing seat and six-point racing harness in addition to an optional passenger seat.
