When the new Tremec T-56 Magnum XL started hitting the streets, owners of current Tri-Ax shifters began coming to us asking for an upgrade. The result is our new Steeda Tri-Ax shifter for the Tremec Magnum XL transmission for 2005+ Mustang.

The Tremec T-56 Magnum XL is a new 6-speed manual transmission designed to replace the 2005-2010 Mustang GT 5-speed transmission with it's remote mounted shifter set up and to also replace the Getrag MT-82 transmission in the 2011+ Mustangs. The new T-56 Magnum features a much more robust direct shifter connection eliminating the remote set up on the 2005-2010 models and greatly improving durability over the Getrag MT-82 in the 2011+ models.

Our Tri-Ax shifter for this new transmission was designed with the same standards as all our other Tri-Ax shifters. Our shifter directly replaces the Tremec shifter that is supplied with the transmission and features our offset pre-load shift mechanism for "no miss" 2-3 shifts, adjustable positive stops to prevent over extending the shift lever and a nickel plated pivot shaft that won't rust or stain.

As you would expect from our shifters they are CNC machined from 6061 T-6 aluminum with no welds, castings, or stampings that can break. Our internal design is the same design that has been repeatedly tested to over 1.5 million shifts with no measurable wear of the internal pivot mechanism. All other competitor's internal construction would never endure such a test without significant wear.

TestimonialI am not a per formance driver anymore. These days my Mustang is my daily driver and weekend cruiser. So my needs in a short throw shifter are somewhat different than those of most enthusiasts. I wanted a shifter with a somewhat shorter throw than stock but still long enough for my relaxed shifting style. But most of all, the shifter had to be as quiet as stock. I tried one of the very expensive per formance shifters and liked the shorter throw but hated the amount of noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) that it introduced, so after about a month I went back to the shop and had them reinstall the stock shifter. I found out later that the NVH problem was due to damage caused by an improper installation so I don't know what it would have been like had it been properly installed. Once back to using the stock shifter, I realized how much I still wanted a shorter throw but without the NVH so I started asking around and came to the conclusion that the Steeda Short Throw Shifter might be my best option. After some conversation with the helpful people at Steeda, I ordered and received their shifter. I had a different shop do the installation this time. Driving away after the installation, I noticed an immediate difference that brought a grin to my face. This shifter was exactly what I was looking for! It has a nice throw that is shorter than stock but not too extreme. It has very precise movement and best of all, it is just as quiet as the stock shifter! There is a slight click as it is pulled into each gear that is more felt than heard and is a reassuring confirmation that you are in the gear. The reverse lockout is positive without requiring too much effort (I had expected I would want to switch to the included lighter spring but decided it wasn't necessary once I tried it). I can't say how it would do in per formance use since that's not my style but if you are looking for a reasonably priced quality shifter with great feel and no added noise then the Steeda shifter is a great choice. I could not be more pleased!
