My vehicle did not come with a Tow Hook from the factory, so I decided to investigate options that were available. The Tow Hook from GM that was specified for my V is your basic cast metal (lack luster) loop. I had found some options that looked nice, but were obviously not engineered for a towing application, rather for ornament only. The ZL1 Addons Premium Tow Hook was the only option I found that was designed for both. It is an extremely well designed fixture, made from high-strength metals (not aluminum alloy) like the GM option. However, this fixture was elegantly packaged to allow adjustability (tow hook position), minor alignment corrections with the towing vehicle and shear beauty! The ZL1 Addons Premium Tow Hook utilizes a Spherical Joint between the shaft and hook interfaces, which will minimize bending should their be some off-set angles imparted by the tow vehicle. Most deigns I had investigated used a simple clevis at this interface, which only provide the illusion of the true mechanics of a spherical joint. There was some real though that went into this deign – imagine that! I would not hesitate to recommend the ZL1 Addons Premium Tow Hook to anyone who desires a true “better than factory” option, which is rare in this day and age of “decorative without functionality” aftermarket parts . As far as value is concerned, the ZL1 Addons Premium Tow Hook is actually only +15% MSRP more than the lack-luster GM version. Hardly a concern when you are comparing quality, functionality and beauty. I was not planning to leave the ZL1 Addons Premium Tow Hook in the front interface, but it is so stunning that I just might have to!
