Overview

The Ferodo DS2500 is the benchmark hybrid pad — the one serious drivers reach for when a dedicated race pad is too aggressive for the commute and a dedicated street pad cooks off on the third hot lap. Built on the same carbon-ceramic friction science Ferodo developed for World Rally Championship and 24-hour endurance programs, the DS2500 delivers race-grade bite and fade resistance while staying livable on the road: reasonable dust, controllable noise, predictable modulation from cold, and a friction curve that stays flat well past 600°C.

This listing is for the REAR axle-set (4 pads) — fits AP Racing CP9449 rear calipers on McLaren 720S and 750S.

Fitment

Axle Year Model Caliper
Rear 2017–2022 McLaren 720S AP Racing CP9449
Rear 2024–2025 McLaren 750S AP Racing CP9449

Verify your 750S caliper part number before ordering — AP Racing production has minor revisions over the platform lifecycle. Essex lists CP9449 applications for 650S/600LT/MP4-12C platforms; 720S/750S rear uses the same caliper family in stock configuration.

Compound Spec

Ferodo DS2500 friction coefficient vs temperature curve
Ferodo DS2500 friction coefficient (µ) plotted against operating temperature. DS2500 maintains consistent bite from cold through 600°C+ where lesser pads fade. Source: Ferodo Racing compound data.
Property Value
Compound Ferodo DS2500 (hybrid race/street)
Friction coefficient (µ) 0.42 cold → 0.43 hot (very flat curve)
Operating temperature 50°C – 600°C+
Fade resistance Track-grade — proven in 24-hour endurance programs
Pad dimensions 132.4 × 56 × 17 mm, D50 radial depth
Rotor wear Moderate — rotor-friendly vs dedicated race pads
Dust Moderate — more than street OE, less than race
Noise Low when warmed — occasional cold-start squeak
Intended Use

Track days, autocross, and spirited canyon/backroad driving where a dedicated race pad would be unlivable on the commute but an OE street pad would glaze and fade after three hot laps. The DS2500 bridges the gap — Ferodo’s most-reached-for compound for customer cars.

Not ideal for: pure commuter-only cars (DS2500 makes more dust than an OE pad), or full-race-only cars where DS3.12 or DSUNO would be the correct choice for sustained wheel-lockup thresholds above 700°C.

Installation & Bed-In

Bed-in procedure is critical for DS2500. Skip it and you’ll glaze the pads on the first hot stop.

  1. Install rear pads and confirm full pedal pressure with engine off.
  2. Drive at low speed for 5 minutes to check for noise or pull — ensures calipers reset correctly.
  3. Perform 8–10 moderate stops from 60 → 10 mph, ~30 seconds apart, without coming to a complete stop.
  4. Perform 4–6 aggressive stops from 80 → 10 mph, ~45 seconds apart, with quick acceleration to dissipate heat.
  5. Drive for 10 minutes at normal speed without heavy braking to let pads cool.
  6. Do not park with hot brakes — imprints from stationary pads cause vibration under subsequent braking.
  7. Full bed-in completes over the first 300–500 miles of mixed driving.
Ferodo Racing Heritage

Ferodo Racing has supplied friction material to the FIA World Rally Championship, Le Mans 24 Hours, and BTCC for over six decades. The DS series compounds were developed to survive the brake-loading thermodynamics of Group B rally (where asphalt pads must work on a car that’s been ice-soaked at the start of a stage) and refined through Le Mans prototype programs. What you’re installing is the direct descendant of that R&D.

Companion Products

  • Matched front pads: Ferodo DS2500 FRP3014H front set (sold separately — link above).
  • Brake fluid: Castrol SRF or Motul RBF 660 for track use — OE DOT 4 will boil at DS2500 operating temps.
  • Stainless lines: Goodridge or HEL kits to eliminate flex under high-temperature pedal pressure.
  • Rotors: OE McLaren rotors are compatible; for track-only use consider AP Racing J-hook or PFC direct-drive upgrades.
What’s Included

  • 4 × Ferodo DS2500 FRP0216H-N brake pads (complete rear axle set)
  • Bed-in instruction card (standard Ferodo protocol)
