05 Installation
X3M/X4M coilover swap is more involved than a sedan because of the M-SUV ride-height linkages and the heavier components. Plan a full day at a qualified shop. The kit bolts to OEM upper mount points front and rear. If equipped with Adaptive M Suspension, the ESC module installs in the trunk and intercepts the electronic damping signal to prevent fault codes.
What you’ll need
- Coil-spring compressor (rentable at most parts stores)
- Standard metric socket set + torque wrench
- Jack + jack stands rated for vehicle weight
- Alignment appointment booked for same day (mandatory after install)
Time required
5-7 hours per axle pair (SUV platform, more access work) for the install. Add a 1-hour alignment appointment same day — new ride height changes camber, caster, and toe.

What’s the difference between KW V1, V2, V3, Clubsport, and DDC?
V1 is pre-set damping — KW chose the rebound/compression settings, you adjust ride height only. Best for street drivers who want lower stance and improved handling without tinkering. V2 adds rebound adjustability. V3 adds independent compression adjustability — you can fine-tune for street comfort or track aggression. Clubsport 2-way/3-way is the track-tuned tier with stiffer spring rates and motorsport valving. DDC is electronic damping — iPhone app control or vehicle Drive Mode integration on supported chassis.
Is this a real KW part?
Yes. FFP is an authorized KW Suspension dealer. Every order comes direct from KW Automotive’s North American distribution center. No counterfeits, no third-party copies. Each kit ships in original KW packaging with serial number and warranty documentation.
Will this work with my factory MagneRide / electronic damping?
This kit replaces the OEM passive damping. If your X3M/X4M is equipped with Adaptive M Suspension (electronic damping), you need the matching KW ESC Cancellation Module (SKU 68510389) in addition to this coilover kit — otherwise the BMW iDrive will throw a suspension fault. Check your option code 2VF (Adaptive M Suspension). The base mechanical-damping X3M/X4M does not need the ESC module.
How long is the lead time?
KW V3 X3M/X4M kits typically backorder — 2-4 week refill from KW’s Buford GA distribution center. In-stock applications typically ship within 3-5 business days from KW’s Buford, GA distribution center. Backorder applications usually refill within 2-3 weeks. We send you a weekly status update if your application is on backorder.
Can I install it myself?
Most experienced DIY mechanics can install a coilover kit in 4-6 hours per axle pair with basic tools (jack stands, spring compressor, socket set, torque wrench). However: alignment is required after install — book a same-day appointment with a shop that can handle coilover geometry. If you’ve never installed coilovers before, we recommend professional install for the first kit.
