Allen-head plug with embedded magnet - catches ferrous metal particles so you see problems in the can before they ride into your turbo. CANNOT be combined with the Drain Line Kit below (pick one or the other).

Drain valve + hose + fittings for relocated drain access - route to a reachable point so you don't have to lift the can to empty it. CANNOT be combined with the Magnetic Drain Plug above.

Ships with 4 interchangeable jet sizes: .100 (stock-ish), .125 (slightly freer than factory), .150 (for boosted/towing builds), .175 (for heavily modified tunes). Dial PCV flow to your combo instead of guessing.

Higher-flowing valves that pull more vacuum through the catch can - required for boosted applications. Pair of 17mm (5/8 inch) valves. Hexagonal nut for disassembly + cleaning.

Overview

The UPR Plug N Play™ Dual Valve Oil Catch Can with ECSS is the gold-standard PCV protection system for the Ford Explorer ST’s 3.0L EcoBoost. Two-stage separation — dirty-side catch can on one path, Electronic Clean Side Separator (ECSS) on the other — and it protects the intercooler the same way your factory PCV was supposed to but doesn’t.

EcoBoosts blow-by oil hard. Stock PCV routes that oil vapor right back into your intake charge, where it coats the intercooler core, drops charge-air-cooler efficiency, and coats intake valves (GDI engines can’t self-clean like port-injected engines). This kit traps the oil before it ever touches the hot side of your combustion path.

What The ECSS Actually Does

Most “catch cans” are just a dirty-side trap — they intercept PCV flow at idle and low load but do nothing when the turbo spools. UPR’s ECSS (Electronic Clean Side Separator) wires into the factory crankcase sensor and traps oil mist that gets forced out of the clean side specifically when the engine is under boost — exactly when modified EcoBoosts push the most oil vapor. No check engine lights. No EPS interference. No tuning around it.

Installation

  1. Time: 20-30 minutes for a first-timer with basic tools.
  2. Difficulty: Plug-and-play — no drilling, no wiring modifications, no tune changes.
  3. Required tools: 10mm socket, flat-blade screwdriver for PCV quick-connect release, pliers for hose-end retention clips.
  4. Bracket mount: OEM hard points — the included adjustable bracket drops into factory-tapped bolt locations.
  5. PCV path: Disconnect the orange factory fitting (pull retention clip, push collar inward, pull apart — hold the ring firmly, it wants to stay seated). UPR quick-connect takes its place.
  6. ECSS wiring: Harness plugs directly into the factory clean-side crankcase sensor. Bolt the ECSS to the bracket and route the hose. Zero ECU changes required.
  7. First drain: Check after 500-1000 miles. Most drivers see 1-3 oz of captured oil on the first check. Drain interval stretches as blow-by stabilizes.
