Diesel performance, finally addressed

The M57 in the X5d/X6d is one of the most under-tapped diesel platforms in the BMW lineup — built tough, but choked from the factory by a heavy-wall cast downpipe and high-cell-count cat that strangle exhaust flow. VRSF’s Down Pipe & Mid Pipe Combo replaces both restrictive sections in one pass.

The result is faster turbo spool, a meaningful power and torque gain — especially when paired with a tune — and a richer, more aggressive exhaust note that still keeps the diesel character. This is the modification that owners do first; everything else builds on top of it.

High Flow Catted vs Track Limited Racing

Two configurations cover both street-driven X5d/X6d builds and dedicated track / off-road platforms. Pick by use case — the construction is identical; the difference is whether the 200-cell catalytic converter stays in the loop.

Not compatible with F-chassis (F15 X5 / F16 X6) M57 — those use a different exhaust layout.

+20–25 HP and meaningful torque, more with a tune

Bolt-on gains alone are real and measurable on the M57 — the factory cast downpipe is that restrictive. With a quality ECU tune (DPF/EGR delete, increased boost, optimized fueling), the combo unlocks the full potential of the platform: 30+ HP and significant torque gains, alongside crisper throttle response and meaningfully faster spool.

Recommended pairings: a quality M57 tune is the highest-leverage companion modification — reach out and we will recommend a current shop. After that, intake, intercooler, and exhaust complete the build.

3–4 hour install with the right tools

• Lift the vehicle and let the exhaust cool fully before disassembly — M57 components retain heat for hours after a drive.
• Remove the factory downpipe and mid-pipe sections from the turbo outlet through to the OEM cat-back connection point.
• Install the VRSF down pipe and mid pipe with new gaskets at every flange — old gaskets will not seal reliably under increased flow.
• Reconnect O2 sensors. Some regions / years may require an O2 spacer or non-fouler on the post-cat sensor for the catted variant.
• If running the Track Limited Racing variant, an ECU tune is required to disable the cat-monitoring O2 logic and prevent permanent fault codes.
